Maksuton tilastotieteen intensiivikurssi

Suomen Tilastoseuran ja Suomen Biostatistiikan Seuran järjestämä maksuton tilastotieteen intensiivikurssi järjestetään Kauppakorkeakoulu Hankenilla Helsingissä 23.–27.5.2026.

Kurssin aiheena on tänä vuonna monitestaus ja sen luennoi apulaisprofessori Jesse Hemerik (Tinbergen Institute, Erasmus University Rotterdam): https://tinbergen.nl/person/2182/jesse-hemerik

Ilmoittautumisen määräpäivä on 26.4. 

Aihe on ajankohtainen mm. monia aloja vaivaavan p-arvojen kalastelun ja toistettavuuskriisin takia. Monitestausteorian tärkeimmät kehittäjät palkittiin viime vuonna 1 000 000 dollarin arvoisella joka toinen vuosi jaettavalla Rousseeuw-palkinnolla: https://www.rousseeuwprize.org/2024

Hemerik on julkaissut tutkimuksia alan parhaimmissa lehdissä kuten American Statistician, Biometrika, International Statistical Review, Journal of the American Statistical Association, Journal of the Royal Statistical Society, Psychometrika, Statistical Science ja Statistics in Medicine.

Kurssilta voi hyvinkin löytyä teoreettinen tai empiirinen opinnäytteen aihe.

Dear Recipient,

A free intensive course in statistics jointly organized by the Finnish Statistical Society and the Finnish Society of Biostatistics will be held at Hanken School of Economics in Helsinki on May 23-27, 2026.

This year’s topic is multiple testing, and the course will be lectured by Assistant Professor Jesse Hemerik (Tinbergen Institute, Erasmus University Rotterdam): https://tinbergen.nl/person/2182/jesse-hemerik

Deadline for the registration is on April 26th.

The topic is highly timely, among other reasons due to p-hacking and the reproducibility crisis affecting many fields. Last year, the most important developers of multiple testing theory were awarded the biennial Rousseeuw Prize, worth USD 1,000,000. https://www.rousseeuwprize.org/2024

Hemerik has published research in the leading journals of the field, including The American Statistician, Biometrika, International Statistical Review, Journal of the American Statistical Association, Journal of the Royal Statistical Society, Psychometrika, Statistical Science, and Statistics in Medicine.

The course can no doubt spark ideas for a theoretical or an empirical thesis (project).
